As the season of Christmas is underway, we hold our breath with anticipation. We feel that something special is coming. What could it be? The crisp winter air delivers snowflakes that whisper 'something great is coming.' We decorate the house and put up a tree. We make hot cocoa and listen for the hushed quiet that feels special.
What is special about this season? If we are honest, it's not the gifts or gift giving -too many disappointments, stress, credit cards ringing up debt. It's not the rush at the stores. The season is special because our Lord was born into this world to save us. God loves us so much he shared his only son with us. He took on our sins as he experienced death -the price of sin- so that we might live. The sacrifice is a miracle. The gift is beyond our comprehension. Then he rose and lived to be with us. It's a gift to listen to the Lord and obey his commands. He has a great plan for our lives -if only we will walk with him- every single day. It's not enough to believe -no a relationship with the Lord is active.
Why is birth a miracle? We are all born into this world. Yet every birth amazes every parent. The birth of our Lord is a sacrifice, so that we would live. So allow the holy spirit to reveal the miracle of Jesus' birth to you -in a personal way.
When you feel the quiet of the season sweep over your soul and you wonder why it feels so special this time of year -spend some time contemplating the birth of our Lord and Savior. When you shop for gifts for others or drink your hot cocoa -thank the Lord for his provision. Thank him for these moments that he's gifted to us. He is with us every moment. Accept his gifts with gratitude and let the season of peace and joy fill your spirit. Connect with our Lord. He's the miracle of Christmas.
